Waystar Update: Network Interruption Related to Cybersecurity Issue with Change Healthcare

This is a follow-up to recent communications we have sent to you regarding impacts to EDIinsight® by Waystar, a third-party clearinghouse with which we work. As you may be aware, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, a cybersecurity issue began to affect Change Healthcare, which is in turn impacting EDIinsight by Waystar.

The impact of the Change Healthcare cybersecurity issue is widespread across the national healthcare system and is not limited to gPM™.

On May 7, 2024, Waystar provided the following information:
Waystar continues to work directly with payers to explore options for 835 files impacted by the February 21 cyberattack. While Waystar/EDIinsight will deliver any historical remits provided by payers, the majority of payers have communicated they will not support the reprocessing of any blocked remits. If you are still waiting on historical remits, we encourage you to visit the payer’s web portal to obtain the 835.

FAQs
If historical remits are delivered to Waystar/EDIinsight, will this cause duplicates?

  • If an 835 file is received but you have previously obtained that same 835 directly from the payer and uploaded it to your PM/HIS, it will not be flagged as a duplicate remit and manual intervention may be necessary to reconcile your systems.

Will I be charged for historical remits that are processed by Waystar?

  • All transactions processed by Waystar/EDIinsight will follow the pricing outlined in each client contract.

What if I don’t want Waystar to process historical remits?

  • Waystar/EDIinsight is unable to stop the processing of remits at the client level. Therefore, any remits that we receive from a payer will be posted to your account(s).

Will my missing remit cases be closed?

  • Yes, if Waystar has not received the historical remits and is unable to obtain them, we will close your support case or issue, as no further assistance can be provided by Waystar.

For the most up-to-date information, Waystar has requested that customers please log in to the EDIinsight application and refer to the Communications Center message.

Please note: ModMed® has been made aware of phishing campaigns or other fraud attempts seeking to capitalize on the confusion and disruption surrounding the Change Healthcare outage. Some of the phishing emails contain a request for the recipient to participate in a survey. Please exercise extra caution when clicking on any links, opening any attachments, or even being enticed to make business-critical changes that could result in misdirection of payments. It is recommended that you navigate to the appropriate website by manually typing known website addresses in your browser instead of clicking on suspicious links in an email.

If you would also like to monitor this situation, we recommend bookmarking Change Healthcare’s system-specific status update and incident report pages.
