2022 MIPS Immunizations and Electronic Case Reporting

Dear Valued Clients:

With the 2022 Quality Payment Program Final Rule, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) listed the following measures as required under the Public Health And Clinical Data Exchange Objective of the Promoting Interoperability category. The Eligible Clinician (EC) and/or group must attest that they are in active engagement with or qualify for an exclusion.

  • Immunization Registry Reporting
  • Electronic Case Reporting

Here’s what that means for ECs and/or Groups for 2022:

Immunizations Registry Reporting: The MIPS eligible clinician is in active engagement with a public health agency to submit immunization data and receive immunization forecasts and histories from the public health immunization registry/immunization information system (IIS).

  • If the EC and/or group administers immunizations to patients, you must attest that you are in active engagement with a public health agency to submit immunization data and receive immunization forecasts and histories from the public health immunization registry/immunization information system (IIS) within 60 days after the start of your PI reporting period.
    • ModMed is working on an immunization reporting solution for our users who administer immunizations. Once this becomes available, we will send out a separate communication with instructions.
  • Available exclusions: Any MIPS eligible clinician meeting one or more of the following criteria may be excluded from the Immunization Registry Reporting measure if the MIPS eligible clinician:
    • Does not administer any immunizations to any of the populations for which data is collected by its jurisdiction’s immunization registry or immunization information system during the performance period. OR
    • Operates in a jurisdiction for which no immunization registry or immunization information system is capable of accepting the specific standards required to meet the CEHRT definition at the start of the performance period. OR
    • Operates in a jurisdiction where no immunization registry or immunization information system has declared readiness to receive immunization data as of 6 months prior to the start of the performance period.

Electronic Case Reporting: The MIPS eligible clinician is in active engagement with a public health agency to electronically submit case reporting of reportable conditions.

  • For the 2022 performance period, gGastro users may claim the exclusion stating the MIPS eligible clinician uses CEHRT that is not certified to the electronic case reporting certification criterion at CFR 170.315(f)(5) prior to the start of the performance period they select in CY 2022

Please note that your 2022 MIPS Promoting Interoperability Dashboard will reflect these measures and exclusions soon.

Sincerely,
The ModMed Gastroenterology Team
