On Friday, October 15, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced its extension for reweighting requests for performance year (PY) 2020 under the Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstance (EUC) Exemption policy.
Now through Monday, November 29, 2021 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time, CMS will allow clinicians, groups, virtual groups, and Alternative Payment Model (APM) Entities to request MIPS performance category reweighting for PY 2020.
CMS’ purpose of reopening the 2020 EUC application at this time is to offer support for those on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic public health emergency (PHE), who may not have been able to submit an EUC application or submit data by the March 31, 2021 deadline.
Submission of 2020 EUC reweighting requests must be made through the “Targeted Review” form on qpp.cms.gov, as opposed to the EUC Exception Application available on clinicians’ or practices’ Quality Payment Program (QPP) accounts. The EUC Exception Application form currently accessible on qpp.cms.gov is for PY 2021 only.
Note: CMS will not reweight any performance category for which an individual, group, or virtual group submitted data.
For more information, please visit the QPP website and the Performance Year (PY) 2020 Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances: Reweighting Requests Extension Guide, both of which contain information and detailed instructions regarding how to submit reweighting requests.
