We are writing to make you aware that if you are required to use certified EHR technology because you report MIPS (or for any other reason), it is imperative that your system is on gGastro® version 6.x and you must enable the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Application Programming Interface (API) prior to Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Please note, if you currently have gGastro v.5.x or lower, you must schedule an upgrade here to v.6.x as soon as possible. Once you are on v.6.x, you will need to schedule your FHIR implementation for a date no later than Thursday, August 31, 2023.
FHIR API
In 2022, we completed and certified our FHIR API in accordance with the 21st Century Cures Act Certification requirements and to support the MIPS Promoting Interoperability Measure: Provider to Patient Exchange — Provide Patients Electronic Access to Their Health Information.
Action Required for Those Who Self-Host Their Installation
If you host and manage your own installation outside of the ModMed® gGastro cloud environment, please complete the following steps:
- Upgrade to gGastro v.6.0 or Beyond
You must be running gGastro v.6.0 or beyond at the start of the 90-day reporting period you choose for the Promoting Interoperability category of MIPS for 2023. For example, if you intend to report Promoting Interoperability for Q4 of 2023, gGastro must be running v.6.0, or beyond, by October 1, 2023. Please click here for more information on Promoting Interoperability requirements for 2023.
Please note: You can choose to upgrade gGastro to v.6.0 independently of the FHIR API steps mentioned below.
- FHIR API Activation
The FHIR API solution must be activated, live, and functioning by the start of the 90-day reporting period you choose for the Promoting Interoperability category of MIPS for 2023. For example, if you intend to report Promoting Interoperability for Q4 of 2023, you would need the FHIR API solution active by October 1, 2023.
We have updated our server software compatibility matrix (included below) to reflect the requirements for gGastro v.6.0 and, where applicable, FHIR API. Please carefully review the grid below and contact our Support Team with any questions or concerns. Once you have confirmed that your software meets the standards below, contact our Support Team to request assistance with installing and activating your FHIR API.
Please note: By activating the FHIR API, your data will be processed in our cloud environment.
*The FHIR API Solution requires Microsoft Windows Server 2016 or beyond, and requires the HyperV Role to be enabled.
*In virtualized environments, the compute capacity limit is based on the number of logical processors, not cores.
*Although user workstations can use Chrome and Edge, the gGastro server requires Internet Explorer 11. We are working to remove this dependency in the near future.
