New EHR Incentive Program for Meaningful Use Hardship

This compliance update is intended for First-Time Providers who plan to complete the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2017 and have not attested to Meaningful Use before.

According to an update from CMS, Eligible Professionals (EPs) who have never successfully attested to Meaningful Use prior to 2017 must take one of the following actions by October 1, 2017 to avoid the 2018 payment adjustment:

  1. Attest to the 2017 Modified Stage 2 EHR Incentive Program requirements; OR
  2. Submit a one-time hardship exception application if transitioning to MIPS under the Quality Payment Program and plan to report on measures specified for the Advancing Care Information performance category.  The one-time Hardship Exception Application can be found here.
