gGastro 4.53 Post-upgrade checklist

Review roles. By default, roles related to new functionality are disabled.  Add the permissions based on the functions performed by your staff.

New roles available in 4.53:

  • Direct Messaging/Send Direct Messages (controls ability to send direct messages from Transmit Record)
  • Patient Portal/Publish Patient Documents to Portal (controls ability to send Clinical Summary to portal from Transmit Record screen)

Staff Members

Certified Healthcare Professional flag on staff members has been added on Staff member record details. The purpose of this flag is to indicate for CPOE whether the user entering the order is a certified healthcare professional (for Meaningful Use compliance). During the upgrade, all the staff members will automatically have this checkbox checked, except those with specialty Administrative personnel, Technician, Transcriptionist, Other. Please keep in mind that for MU compliance only those orders that are entered by certified healthcare professionals can be counted for CPOE measures.

Procedure Overview Configuration

Several new placeholders have been added to Colonoscopy procedure overview to support the data collection for ASC-9 and ASC-10 reports.  Colonoscopy type, Prior colonoscopy date/interval, Interval reason, Patient risk assessment. Configure the narratives for Colonoscopy and Double Procedure Colonoscopy to include these placeholders. Refer to release notes for a suggested wording/configuration. Remember you can set default values for these placeholders so that only exceptions need to be documented, thus reducing the number of clicks/documentation points.

Coding/Default codes

If you have non-standard service types that do not automatically generate a CPT code, and there is a standard code that needs to be selected most of the time, you can now set a default code per service type (e.g. you can set a default CPT code for Breath Test and it will be defaulted for every Breath Test visit. You only need to modify it if there is a non-standard case requiring a different CPT code).

CO2 in Vital Signs Interface

If you are using a vital signs interface, and using Mindray Passport V vital sign monitors, you can now enable automatic polling of CO2 in the interface. Just check the option in configurations. For all other models, the vital sign monitor does not send CO2 data with the interface for automatic polling.

ICD-10 on Office Visits

  • Inform and educate your staff of the new Diagnosis search function available with ICD-10.
  • Update your user list items to include ICD-10.
  • During the upgrade all diagnoses that can have a 1-to-1 matching will be automatically updated with ICD-10 codes on all diagnosis user list items and patient diagnoses. You will only need to update those where multiple mappings are available and a clinical decision needs to be made for proper coding.
  • Expand your user list items to properly reflect ICD-10 refinements.

Procedure overview documentation

Inform your staff and providers of the new Procedure overview fields and how to document them.

Lock Document – new behavior

Make sure your staff is aware of the new Lock document behavior. With this release, locking a document will freeze all the data on the document, so it will no longer keep getting updated.

Inform your staff of the gRX functions to print the medication education materials as one more way to comply with the Meaningful Use patient education measure.

If you are using gPortal and have multiple locations, make sure to review your location policy. This release has logic to default the patient location based on past services and future appointments. Review release notes to understand the logic better and evaluate if it will impact how you handle patient messages and update requests based on locations.

Clinical Orders

It is now possible to configure clinical orders to generate a requisition number. If your lab send the requisition number back to gGastro in the result message, gGastro will automatically match results to orders and help you in your order management, as well as MU clinical results measure compliance.
